History and Our Future

In the Beginning

The Avon concept began in the late 1970’s, specialising in groupage services to and from Northern and Southern Ireland and acquiring its’ name from the local town Stratford Upon Avon.

Expanding within a few years to larger premises and then able to offer export packing, general freight forwarding and storage.

The Early Years of Avon Freight Group

Operating from Studley for over 20 years, in 1999 Avon Groupage was purchased by the present owners Simon Poole and Paul Drew.  The following year saw the acquisition of a Birmingham based haulage firm Wheel Transport Ltd which provided further distribution capabilities and larger warehousing facilities.

In 2001 Wheel Transport became a shareholder member of a newly formed UK pallet network, Palletforce.  This once again offered further coverage and opportunities to provide more services to our customers. By 2004 a larger, 22,000 sqft site in nearby Redditch had been purchased and both companies moved in and merged to form Avon Freight Group Ltd.

During quite difficult economic years for both Britain and Ireland, Avon saw continued steady growth and in 2008 purchased an additional 3.8 acre industrial site in Redditch.

Extensive alterations began in 2009 with a vision to provide a modern 3PL warehouse facility.

The Present Day

With the site development now complete Avon Freight Group are proud of the facility which includes state of the art warehousing, covered loading areas and modern offices all of which support the extensive services offered:
